Chain conveyors are heavy-duty material handling systems that move bulk or unit loads using a continuous chain with flights, slats or attachments. They perform well with abrasive, hot or heavy materials and on long or inclined runs where belts or rollers struggle. Widely used in mining, recycling, quarries, steel and aggregate operations, chain conveyors are modular, configurable for different capacities and speeds, and built for durability in harsh environments.
Check chain and link wear, sprocket tooth condition, flights or slats, drive motor and gearbox, welds and frames for cracks, wear plates, alignment, lubrication history, and availability of spare parts and manuals.
Determine throughput (tph or m3/h), material bulk density, particle size, moisture and abrasiveness, incline angle and required speed. Use those inputs to choose chain type, flight spacing and drive power—consult manufacturers for calculations.
Plan for weight, transport length, and height; consider partial disassembly or modular shipment, defined lifting points, protecting bearings and motors, crating electrical components, and arranging heavy-haul carriers or permits if oversized.
Routine tasks include chain lubrication and tensioning, sprocket inspection, replacing worn flights or wear plates, checking gearbox oil, cleaning trapped material, verifying anchor bolts and guards, and following manufacturer service intervals.
