Common options are trailering by land on a suitable trailer or flatbed, lifting onto a barge for coastal moves, or using specialized boat transport. Secure loose gear, protect canvas and electronics, and arrange insurance and permits.

Routine tasks include flushing engines after saltwater use, oil and filter changes, inspecting hoses and bellows, servicing the outdrive/sterndrive, replacing anodes, cleaning and waxing the hull, maintaining batteries and bilge pumps, and winterizing.
