Check table and spindle condition, axis backlash, linear ways and ballscrews, control and CNC electronics, spindle runout, maintenance records, and test-cut parts. Verify serials, spare parts availability, and whether the machine has been retrofit or relevelled.

Determine weight, dimensions, and lifting points; consider partial disassembly (gantry removal, pallet tables) to reduce height. Use specialized heavy-haul carriers, cranes for loading/unloading, and secure the machine to avoid movement or damage.

Prepare a level, load-rated foundation or grillage, adequate overhead clearance, crane or forklift access, stable power supply, and environmental controls (temperature, dust) per manufacturer specs.

Regularly check and adjust axis backlash, lubricate linear guides and ballscrews, monitor spindle bearings and coolant, align and level the machine, and perform periodic laser or ballbar tests to verify accuracy.

Confirm controller model and software versions, obtain backups of CNC parameters, ensure compatibility with your CAM/post-processor, and secure critical spares (encoders, drives, spindle bearings) or service agreements before purchase.
