Check design specs (flow rates, pressure, temperature), materials of construction, ASME or PED stamping, service history, tubing condition (wall thickness, corrosion, pitting), tube-sheet condition, end covers, and past repairs or thermal damage.

Fully drain and flush fluids, isolate and tag connected piping, remove fragile internals if recommended, coat exposed metal with preservative, secure tube bundle, protect nozzle faces and lifting points, and arrange appropriate heavy-haul transport and crane services.

Start with a detailed inspection and pressure/hydrostatic test. Implement a cleaning plan (chemical or mechanical descaling), inspect and test tubes for leaks, replace gaskets, monitor for fouling and corrosion, and follow periodic inspections based on service severity.
