Spiral heat exchangers are compact, high-efficiency units that force two fluids through concentric spiral channels to transfer heat. Their continuous spiral flow promotes uniform velocity and reduces dead zones, making them well suited for viscous, fouling or particulate-laden fluids in chemical, food, and wastewater applications. They offer a small footprint, robust sealing, and relatively easy disassembly for inspection and cleaning.
Inspect for corrosion, pitting or erosion on spiral plates, check seals and gaskets, verify material compatibility with your fluids, ask for fabrication and maintenance records, and confirm pressure and temperature ratings.
Common choices include stainless steels (316L), duplex or super duplex, titanium, and nickel alloys. Select based on chemical compatibility, temperature, and budget; consult corrosion charts or a metallurgist.
Secure internally and externally to prevent movement, protect flanges and nozzles with covers, use padded crating or skids, label weight and center of gravity, and work with carriers experienced in heavy or fragile process equipment.
Regular inspections for fouling, gasket integrity and corrosion; clean by mechanical or chemical methods suitable for the material; replace gaskets per condition; perform pressure tests after reassembly.
